Island of the Dolls
Julian Santana Barrera decided to live as a hermit in the secluded island of Xochimilco in Mexico after the love of his life left him for another man. It was said that he found a body of a girl who drowned in the nearby canal and a doll that he assumed belonged to her. He started to hear footsteps and wailing, so he hung the doll as a sign of respect and hung more dolls to appease the spirits.
